Dave Brosha Photography - January 2007 Newsletter

U and I Magazine Article It's a new year, and with the new year I have several exciting pieces of news to share. First of all, congratulations to Aron Slipacoff, Brian Peers, and Freddie Olayvar - who were all winners of my contest from the last newsletter for sets of 10 5x7 images (although you don't know it yet). For details on this month's contest, please read on to the bottom of the newsletter.

In the past month I've had a couple of cover features in two great magazines, and I encourage you to support these magazines by purchasing copies. First of all, Above & Beyond Magazine (the inflight magazine of northern airline, First Air), has run an entire feature titled "Just How Cold Is It? Dave Brosha Shoots A Yellowknife Winter". Click on the cover thumbnail for a larger copy of the cover. This magazine can be found on all First Air flights between January and February, and also at select newstands in the north.

Above and Beyond Magazine Cover My second cover story is through the fine Toronto photography publication, U and I Magazine. In addition to the cover image, you'll find an article inside (with additional images of the Aurora Borealis) that I penned titled "Extreme Yellowknife". You can purchase copies of this magazine online by following this link.

Finally - and by far the most exciting news - I am very proud to announce that Erin and I will become parents in the New Year. That's right - after many years of the loudest sound in our house being my non-stop blasting of the stereo (Erin can attest to this) - complete with me singing offtune to my "favourite song of the week", we now have to prepare ourselves for the dramatic changes of parenthood (and the noises that brings) . We couldn't be happier. Thus, expect a whole new category of "baby photography" to creep onto this website in the months to come.

With that said, onwards to the images. Below are some of my favourites from the past several months, and are really a continuation of where both the Above & Beyond and the U & I Magazine features left off - they focus on both Yellowknife coldness (I write this while it's a balmy -38C outside) and the incredible displays of Aurora Borealis that we're lucky enough to witness on a weekly - if not nightly - schedule (click on any thumbnail for a larger image, complete with a brief image description):

Well, you've come this far so you may as well finish. This month's contest is for a 12x18 print of "Active North" and entering couldn't be easier: send an e-mail to me at davebrosha@arctic-photo.com letting me know that you want to enter. It's that simple. Of course, I always love your comments, so feel free to include those, as well.

Thanks all!

Dave
